Terms and conditions

Last changed 19 August 2026.

These terms cover using adb4.com — reading here, keeping a library here, and publishing your own writing here. Using the site means accepting them.

Who may use the site

Anyone may read. To keep a library, bookmark a page, write a review or publish anything you need an account, and an account needs an email address you can prove you can reach. One person, one account. You are responsible for what happens under yours, so choose a password you use nowhere else.

We can suspend an account that is used to harass people, to break the law, or to publish work that is not the account holder's to publish.

What you may do with the books

The public-domain catalogue is public domain: read it, copy it, print it, do as you like, subject to the licence terms of Project Gutenberg where they apply to you.

Community books are not. They belong to the members who wrote them. You may read them here and link to them. You may not republish, sell or feed them to anything that trains on them without the writer's permission.

If you publish here

You keep every right you had in your work. Publishing here grants us only what running the site requires: permission to store your file, convert it to a readable format, show it to readers, and list it in the catalogue and the search index. It is not exclusive, and it ends when you delete the book.

By publishing you are promising, each time, that the work is yours, that you have the right to publish it, and that it does not infringe anybody else's rights. The publishing disclaimer you accept before your first book says the same thing at greater length; this page is the umbrella over it.

Content uploaded by users — our responsibility, plainly stated

adb4.com is not responsible for content uploaded by its users. Community books are published by the members who wrote them, on their own authority. We do not write them, we do not commission them, and other than the checks described below we do not read them before they appear.

That means:

  • The writer, and not adb4.com, is legally responsible for what their book contains and for having the right to publish it.
  • We make no promise that any community book is accurate, lawful, inoffensive or fit for any purpose.
  • We are a host, and we act as one: we take down unlawful or infringing work when we are told about it, but we do not monitor everything published here in advance, and nothing on this page should be read as a claim that we do.
  • To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from content a user uploaded.

Nothing here limits any liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Telling us about something that should not be here

Write to copyright@adb4.com for a rights complaint, or use the report button on the book. Tell us which book, who you are, and what the problem is. A book that is the subject of a rights complaint comes out of public view immediately and stays out until somebody has decided — the complaint may turn out to be wrong, but the cost of being wrong the other way is somebody's work sitting on a stranger's shelf while we deliberate. The writer is told, and can answer.

What we do not promise

The site is provided as it is. We try to keep it up, we take backups, and we are careful with your files, but we do not guarantee that it will always be available or that nothing will ever be lost. Keep your own copy of anything you would be sorry to lose.

Changes

We can change these terms. If a change matters, the date below changes with it, and continuing to use the site after that means accepting the new version.

Law

These terms are governed by the law of the place the site is operated from, and any dispute belongs to those courts.
